Lloyd Waner

Lloyd James Waner (March 16, 1906 – July 22, 1982), nicknamed "Little Poison," was a Major League Baseball center fielder. Born in Harrah, Oklahoma, he grew up on a farm with his older brother, Paul, the two of them working from dawn to dusk with baseball as their only entertainment. Their father, a minor league player in Oklahoma City, influenced both sons, and their love and natural talent for the game developed over the years.

At 5 ft 9 in and 132 lb, Waner was one of the smallest players of his era. Alongside Paul, he anchored the Pittsburgh Pirates outfield throughout the 1920s and 1930s. He batted over .300 in ten seasons and earned a selection to the All-Star Game in 1938. Together, Lloyd and Paul Waner set the record for career hits by brothers in MLB.

After brief stints with four other teams late in his career, Waner returned to retire as a Pirate. Following his playing days, he worked as a scout for the Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1967.
