Dossier

Louis Creekmur (January 22, 1927 – July 5, 2009) was an American professional football offensive tackle who played ten seasons in the National Football League, all with the Detroit Lions, from 1950 to 1959. Born in Hopelawn, New Jersey, Creekmur attended Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge Township and went on to the College of William & Mary, where he played for the William & Mary Indians in 1944 and again from 1947 to 1949; his college education was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army in 1945 and 1946.

Creekmur spent his first two NFL seasons at guard before moving to tackle. He appeared in every pre-season, regular-season, and post-season game the Lions played from 1950 through 1958, a streak of 165 consecutive games. He was named to eight straight Pro Bowls from 1950 to 1957 and was selected All-Pro in eight consecutive seasons from 1951 to 1958. During his tenure, Detroit reached the NFL championship game four times and won the title in 1952, 1953, and 1957. Creekmur was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
