Lou Hudson

Louis Clyde Hudson, nicknamed "Sweet Lou," was an American National Basketball Association player born on July 11, 1944, and died on April 11, 2014. Over 13 NBA seasons he scored 17,940 total points and was named an All-Star six times.

Hudson graduated in 1962 from James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he was a four-sport athlete, competing as a quarterback in football, a first baseman in baseball, and a sprinter in track in addition to playing basketball. A high school teammate, Charlie Sanders, who later had a Hall of Fame National Football League career, credited Hudson as the player who inspired him to pursue athletics and followed him to the University of Minnesota.

At Minnesota, Hudson became part of the school's first black recruiting class, enrolling in 1964 alongside Archie Clark and Don Yates. He had also been recruited by North Carolina and its coach, Dean Smith. Hudson was named an All-American during his college career at Minnesota.
