Lou Rymkus

Lou Rymkus (November 6, 1919 – October 31, 1998) was a professional football tackle and coach from Royalton, Illinois. He played college football at the University of Notre Dame, where he was part of Frank Leahy's undefeated 1941 squad. After a season with the NFL's Washington Redskins and two years in the U.S. Marines during World War II, Rymkus signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he anchored the offensive line and protected quarterback Otto Graham across five championship seasons in the AAFC and NFL. He later became the first head coach of the AFL's Houston Oilers, leading the franchise to the league's inaugural championship in 1960.
