Dossier

Louis Dampier (born November 20, 1944) is an American former professional basketball player who played as a 6-foot guard in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in Indianapolis, he attended Southport High School, leading the Cardinals to two IHSAA Sectional titles and the finals of the IHSAA Regionals in 1961–62 and 1962–63.

Dampier is one of only a handful of men to play all nine seasons of the ABA, from 1967 to 1976, all with the Kentucky Colonels. He was one of just two players to spend all nine ABA seasons with the same team; the other was Byron Beck of the Denver Rockets, later renamed the Nuggets. Dampier is the only player to appear in the playoffs in all nine ABA years, and his 728 games played in the league rank as the most by any player.

Following the ABA–NBA merger in 1976, Dampier played three seasons in the NBA, from 1976 to 1979, with the San Antonio Spurs. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
