Dossier

Lucius Oliver Allen Jr. (born September 26, 1947) is an American former professional basketball player, one of a select few to have won a high school state championship, a collegiate national championship, and an NBA championship.

Allen was born in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was raised in a family of nine children. As a young teenager he developed his basketball skills under nationally known softball player Norma Jean McDaniel at the Kensington Community Center. He attended Wyandotte High School from 1962 to 1965, graduating in 1965. Over his three years on the school's basketball team he averaged 22 points and 14 rebounds per game and set the school record for most points in a game. The 6 ft 2 in Allen played forward under head coach Walter Shublom, who compiled a 296–26 record over 15 years at Wyandotte and won 10 state championships. Allen's teams reached the Kansas state Class AA championship game in each of his three seasons, finishing 22–1 as a sophomore, 21–2 as a junior, and an undefeated 23–0 in his senior year.
