Dossier

Luis Enrique "Tite" Arroyo (February 18, 1927 – January 13, 2016) was a Puerto Rican left-handed pitcher who appeared in the major leagues from 1955 to 1963. Born in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico, Arroyo made his MLB debut on April 20, 1955 with the St. Louis Cardinals, primarily as a starter, and was named to the National League All-Star team that year — one of the first two Puerto Ricans selected to the Midsummer Classic, alongside Vic Power. He later joined the New York Yankees, becoming the first Puerto Rican to appear for that club and contributing to their pennant-winning campaigns in 1961 and 1962.
