Masayasu Kaneda

Masaichi Kaneda, a Japanese professional baseball pitcher of Zainichi Korean origin, was born on 1 August 1933 in Heiwa, Aichi Prefecture, to Korean parents and died on 6 October 2019. He remains the only Japanese pitcher to have won 400 games. Kaneda quit high school in 1950 and joined the Kokutetsu Swallows—later known as the Tokyo Yakult Swallows—midway through that year. He spent most of his career with the Swallows, an extremely weak team, and accumulated roughly 90% of his 400 career victories there. He batted and threw left-handed.

In 1965 Kaneda left for the Yomiuri Giants. Across five seasons with the club he won the Japan Series each year before retiring in 1969. He held numerous Nippon Professional Baseball career records and was nicknamed "The Emperor" as the most dominant pitcher in Japan during his prime.

After his playing career, Kaneda became a manager for the Lotte Orions, serving in two separate stints and winning the Japan Series in 1974. He was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988.
