Max Bishop

Max Frederick Bishop (September 5, 1899 – February 24, 1962) was a second baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1924 through 1935, spending the bulk of his career with the Philadelphia Athletics before finishing with the Boston Red Sox. He served as leadoff hitter for the Athletics dynasty that won three consecutive American League pennants from 1929 to 1931 and back-to-back World Series titles in 1929 and 1930. Nicknamed "Camera Eye" for his exceptional plate discipline, Bishop posted a .423 career on-base percentage and holds the all-time MLB record for career bases on balls to hits ratio. After retiring, he coached baseball at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1938 to 1962.
