Mickey Redmond

Michael Edward "Mickey" Redmond, born December 27, 1947, is a Canadian former professional hockey player who played right wing. He began his career with the Montreal Canadiens, playing from 1967 to 1971 and winning Stanley Cups with the club in 1968 and 1969. He scored 27 goals for Montreal in the 1969–70 season. Halfway through the 1970–71 season he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in a deal that sent Frank Mahovlich to Montreal. The following season he scored 42 goals on a line centered by veteran Alex Delvecchio. In 1972–73, Redmond became the seventh player in NHL history, and the first Red Wing, to score 50 goals in a season, finishing with 52 goals and 93 points. The 52 goals surpassed Gordie Howe's team record of 49 and stood until John Ogrodnick tallied 55 during the 1985 season. When Delvecchio retired early in 1973–74 to become the team's coach, Redmond was moved onto a line with Marcel Dionne, and his success continued. After his playing career, Redmond became a color commentator for Detroit Red Wings television broadcasts on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit.
