Mike Bossy

Michael Dean Bossy (January 22, 1957 – April 15, 2022) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who spent his entire National Hockey League career as a right wing with the New York Islanders. Playing from 1977 to 1987, he was a crucial part of the Islanders' four consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the early 1980s.

Bossy won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1978 as the NHL's rookie of the year, setting the then-record for most goals by a rookie with 53. In the 1982 Stanley Cup playoffs he was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player, and he won the Lady Byng Trophy, recognizing high quality play combined with sportsmanship, three times. He led the NHL in goals twice and finished second three other times. He was voted to the league's first all-star team five times and to the second all-star team three further times.

Bossy is one of two players, along with Jack Darragh, to score consecutive Stanley Cup-winning goals, doing so in 1982 and 1983, and he is the only player to record four game-winning goals in a single playoff series, during the 1983 Conference Final. He remains the NHL's all-time leader in average goals scored per regular season game.
