Mike Lum

Michael Ken-Wai Lum (born October 27, 1945, Honolulu, Hawaii) was a professional baseball outfielder and first baseman who became the first American of Japanese ancestry to play in Major League Baseball. Adopted at birth by a Chinese couple, Lum first drew attention as a left-handed quarterback at President Theodore Roosevelt High School, winning the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's Back of the Year award in 1962. He signed with the Milwaukee Braves as an amateur free agent and was converted to the outfield in their organization. His MLB career included stints with the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago Cubs, followed by a stint with the Yokohama Taiyo Whales in Japan.
