Mike McCormack

Michael Joseph McCormack Jr. (June 21, 1930 – November 15, 2013) was an American professional football player, coach, and executive in the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Kansas, where he assumed he would go on to a career as a high school coach. The New York Yanks selected him in the 1951 NFL draft, taking him in the third round. After the 1951 season, he was conscripted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. While he was away, the Yanks moved to Dallas to become the Texans, a franchise that folded after a single season.

Returning in 1954 to find his team gone, McCormack became a free agent and was signed by the Baltimore Colts, a new franchise created the previous year to replace the defunct Yanks/Texans. He went on to play offensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns from 1954 through 1962. Browns founder Paul Brown had remembered seeing McCormack play in his rookie season.

After his playing career, McCormack served as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Baltimore Colts, and the Seattle Seahawks. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1984.
