Mike Murphy

Michael John Murphy (born September 12, 1950) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and coach. Murphy played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League for the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings. He spent 10 years in Los Angeles and served as captain of the Kings for seven of them. He was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game in 1980, and his career totals include 231 goals. Internationally, Murphy represented Team Canada at the 1978 World Championships, winning a bronze medal.
As a youth, he played in the 1963 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a North York minor team, alongside teammate Peter Sullivan.
Following his playing career, Murphy became a coach, serving as both assistant and head coach in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers. He was an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 1986 World Championships and also coached in the International Hockey League. Murphy is currently Senior Vice President of hockey operations for the NHL.
