Dossier

Milton Ross Plum, an American professional football quarterback, was born January 20, 1935, in Westville, New Jersey, ten miles south of Philadelphia, where he grew up a Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles fan. He attended Woodbury High School, playing football as a quarterback and kicker, baseball as a power-hitting catcher, and basketball across three years. He was named a first-team All-State quarterback and led an undefeated football team to the Colonial Conference and South Jersey Group III titles, while his baseball and basketball teams also captured Colonial Conference championships. After graduating in 1953, he chose college football over minor league baseball.

Plum accepted a football scholarship to Pennsylvania State University, playing under coach Rip Engle for three years from 1954 to 1956 and studying game film with his quarterback coach, future Penn State head coach Joe Paterno.

In the National Football League, Plum played quarterback for the Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1961, the Detroit Lions from 1962 to 1967, the Los Angeles Rams in 1968, and the New York Giants in 1969.
