Mitch Kupchak

Mitchell Kupchak, born May 24, 1954, in Brentwood, New York, is an American retired professional basketball player and basketball executive. He attended Brentwood High School, where he excelled in basketball, before playing collegiately for the North Carolina Tar Heels. At North Carolina he was named an All-American and was selected Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in his senior season. In 1976 he was a member of the gold medal-winning United States team at the Summer Olympics in Montreal.

The Washington Bullets drafted Kupchak in 1976, and he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. He had four productive seasons with Washington and was part of the Bullets team that won the NBA championship. Over the course of his playing career he won three NBA titles in all — one with the Washington Bullets and two with the Los Angeles Lakers.

After his playing career, Kupchak moved into team management, working as a basketball executive. He later served as president of basketball operations and general manager of the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association.
