Nick Libett

Nicholas Lynn Libett, born December 9, 1945, in Stratford, Ontario, is a Canadian retired ice hockey player who played left wing in the National Hockey League. As a youth he played for the Stratford Pee Wees and the Stratford Junior Braves, then moved on to junior hockey with the Hamilton Red Wings from 1962 to 1966. He began his professional career with the Memphis Wings from 1965 to 1967 and the Fort Worth Wings in 1967–68.

Libett made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1967–68 season and held the starting left wing job for eleven consecutive seasons, from 1968–69 through 1978–79. He led the NHL in games played four times and scored at least 20 goals in six seasons, averaging over 50 points a year from 1971 to 1975. He represented Detroit in the 1977 NHL All-Star Game, finished seventh in voting for the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 1978–79, and recorded a consecutive-game streak of 389 games. He served as captain of the Red Wings on two occasions during the 1970s.

After twelve seasons with Detroit he finished his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1979 to 1981. Over 982 career games he recorded 504 points.
