Norm Cash

Norman Dalton Cash (November 10, 1933 – October 11, 1986) was an American Major League Baseball first baseman who spent almost his entire career with the Detroit Tigers. Born in Justiceburg, Garza County, Texas, he attended Sul Ross State Teachers College, where he earned All-Lone Star Conference honors in football while also playing baseball. The Chicago Bears drafted him as a running back in 1955, but he declined to play professional football, signing instead with the Chicago White Sox that year.

A power hitter known to fans and teammates as "Stormin' Norman," Cash hit 377 career home runs, the fourth most by an American League left-handed hitter at the time of his retirement, behind Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and Lou Gehrig. His 373 home runs as a Tiger are tied for second in franchise history with Miguel Cabrera, behind Al Kaline's 399.

Cash was also a capable fielder, leading the American League in assists three times and in fielding percentage twice. Upon his retirement he ranked among the all-time leaders at first base, fourth in assists with 1,317 and tenth in double plays with 1,347, and stood fifth in American League history in games played at first base with 1,943.
