Norm Snead

Norman Bailey Snead (July 31, 1939 – January 14, 2024) was an American professional football quarterback who played in the National Football League. Born in Newport News, Virginia, he was the son of Hugh, a farmer, and Louise Snead. At Warwick High School he was a three-sport star in basketball, football, and baseball, winning all six of his pitching decisions as a sophomore and junior, and averaging 23 points in basketball as a senior, including a 41-point game. After splitting time at starting quarterback as a junior, he passed for nearly 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior. In one game against Hampton, he threw the game-winning touchdown pass and then intercepted a pass on Hampton's next series to seal the outcome. He was named second-team all-state and graduated in 1957.

Snead attended Wake Forest University, where he played college football for the Demon Deacons and set 15 conference single-game and season records. He was the second overall selection of the 1961 NFL draft. Over his professional career he played quarterback for the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers.
