Dossier
Norman Jack Thompson (born March 5, 1945, in San Francisco, California) was a cornerback in the NFL for the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Colts. After attending Galileo High School and Laney Junior College in Oakland, he transferred to the University of Utah, where he earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors in both seasons. In 1969 he intercepted five passes and returned three for touchdowns, including a 97-yarder against Wyoming — tying an NCAA record set in 1939. He became the first defensive player from Utah selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, going 17th overall to the Cardinals in 1971.
