Norm Willey

Norman Earle Willey (1927–2011) was a defensive end who played eight seasons in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. He attended Marshall University and was selected in the thirteenth round of the 1950 NFL draft, originally as a fullback before coach Greasy Neale moved him to defensive line. In a 1952 game against the New York Giants, Willey was credited with an unofficial 17 sacks of quarterback Charlie Conerly, a disputed but still-remarkable single-game figure. In 1954 he was named a first-team All-Pro as part of the Eagles' "Suicide Seven" defensive line and earned Pro Bowl selections in both 1954 and 1955. A broken leg in 1956 cut short his effectiveness, and he retired after the 1957 season.
