Paul Krause

Paul James Krause, born February 19, 1942, was an American professional football player who played safety in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings. He attended Bendle High School in Burton, Michigan, where he earned all-state honors in basketball, football, baseball, and track; he once scored 78 points in a basketball game and was among the few at his school to receive an athletic scholarship. At the University of Iowa, Krause was a two-way starter at wide receiver, running back, and defensive back, and as a senior in 1963 he tied the Iowa record with six touchdown pass receptions.

In the NFL, Krause established himself as a defensive force against opposing wide receivers. He led the league with 12 interceptions as a rookie and went on to set the NFL career interceptions record with 81. Over 16 seasons he was selected to the Pro Bowl eight times. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
