Dossier

Peter Joseph Mahovlich (born October 10, 1946) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, coach, and executive. Nicknamed "Little M" during his playing years — a counterpart to his older brother Frank, the "Big M" — he played in the National Hockey League for several clubs, most notably the Montreal Canadiens, where he played alongside his brother and won four Stanley Cup championships.

Mahovlich attended St. Michael's College School in Toronto from 1961 to 1963, playing on the school's Junior B hockey team, as his brother Frank had before him. He also played first baseman on his high school baseball team, beating out Gord Kirke for the position. Detroit selected him second overall in the 1963 NHL amateur draft. Over his career he played twice for the Detroit Red Wings, as well as for the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins. His minor-league stops included the Hamilton Red Wings of the Ontario Hockey Association, the Pittsburgh Hornets, Montreal Voyageurs, and Adirondack Red Wings of the AHL, the Fort Worth Wings of the Central Hockey League, and the Toledo Goaldiggers of the IHL.

He was an important contributor to the Canadiens' cup-winning teams of 1971, 1973, 1976, and 1977. After his playing days, Mahovlich also worked as a coach and executive.
