Phil Goyette

Joseph Georges Philippe Goyette (October 31, 1933 – January 17, 2026) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played centre in the National Hockey League for 16 seasons between 1956 and 1972. Over 941 career NHL games, he scored 207 goals and 467 assists for 674 points.

Goyette spent his first seven NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, winning four Stanley Cup titles. On June 4, 1963, he was traded to the New York Rangers along with Donnie Marshall and Jacques Plante in exchange for Dave Balon, Leon Rochefort, Len Ronson, and Gump Worsley. He spent another seven seasons with the Rangers before being traded on June 10, 1969 to the St. Louis Blues for a first-round draft pick.

Goyette recorded his best offensive season with the Blues, posting career highs of 29 goals and 49 assists for 78 points. That season he won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct and led the team to the 1970 Stanley Cup Final, contributing three goals and 11 assists during the 1970 playoff run. He was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1970 expansion draft, was later traded back to the Rangers late in the 1971–72 campaign, and retired thereafter.
