Phil Jordon

Philip "Phil" Jordon (September 12, 1933 – June 7, 1965) was an American professional basketball player who played center in the National Basketball Association. A 6'10" center out of Whitworth University, Jordon played seven NBA seasons from 1956 to 1963 with the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Cincinnati Royals, and St. Louis Hawks. Over his career he averaged 10.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Jordon was a member of the Knicks team that surrendered 100 points to Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors on March 2, 1962. He missed that game due to what was officially reported as influenza, though it has been speculated he was also suffering from a hangover — a claim disputed by teammate Willie Naulls. His absence is often cited as a factor in Chamberlain's point total, as it left the Knicks with only one player large enough to guard Chamberlain, Darrall Imhoff.

Jordon drowned after a rafting accident in Washington on June 7, 1965. The raft, which was carrying four men, broke apart, and his body was discovered floating in Puget Sound on June 27.
