Dossier

Philip Anthony Roof (born March 5, 1941, in Paducah, Kentucky) was a catcher in Major League Baseball who played 15 seasons, debuting in 1961 and appearing through 1977. Signed by the Milwaukee Braves out of St. Mary High School in 1959, he spent his career most notably with the Kansas City/Oakland Athletics and the Minnesota Twins. Roof was not valued for his bat but sustained a long major league career through his defensive abilities behind the plate. He holds the distinction of being the first player acquired by the expansion Toronto Blue Jays.
