Randy Hundley

Cecil Randolph "Randy" Hundley Jr. (born June 1, 1942) is an American former professional baseball catcher and coach who played in Major League Baseball from 1964 to 1977. He was signed by the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent in 1960 for $104,000, and in 1963 hit .325 with 23 home runs and 81 runs batted in for the Double-A El Paso Sun Kings. Hundley played for the Giants, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and San Diego Padres, but was most prominent with the Cubs, where he served as the starting catcher for eight seasons and was considered the team's leader during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He won a Gold Glove Award in 1967 and was named an All-Star in 1969. Regarded as one of the best defensive catchers of his era and the best Cubs catcher since Gabby Hartnett in 1940, Hundley introduced a one-handed catching style that was soon copied by other major league catchers. After his playing career, he managed in the minor leagues and established a baseball fantasy camp for adults. Hundley was inducted into the Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame in 1987.
