Bertram Ray Burris (born August 22, 1950, in Idabel, Oklahoma) was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1973 through 1987, appearing for seven different teams over his career. Standing 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Burris grew up the son of sharecroppers before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Recreational Leadership from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. In 1972, he set an NAIA record with 150 strikeouts and earned All-America honors, helping pitch the Bulldogs to a fifth-place finish at the NAIA National Tournament. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 1972 draft.
