Ray Felix

Ray Felix (December 10, 1930 – July 28, 1991) was a professional basketball player from New York City. A 6'11" center, he played high school basketball at Metropolitan High School and college basketball at Long Island University before being selected by the Baltimore Bullets with the first overall pick in the 1953 NBA Draft — the first African American to be taken first in NBA history. Felix won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 1954, averaging 17.6 points and 13.3 rebounds, and was named an All-Star, becoming the second African American so honored. He spent six seasons with the New York Knicks, averaging 12.0 points and 9.1 rebounds.
