Ray Hayworth

Raymond Hall Hayworth (January 29, 1904 – September 25, 2002) was an American professional baseball catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1926 to 1945. A native of High Point, North Carolina, he spent the majority of his career with the Detroit Tigers, where he was part of the teams that won back-to-back American League pennants in 1934 and 1935 and the 1935 World Series. He posted a .265 career batting average with 238 RBIs in 699 games, and set an American League record by handling 438 consecutive chances without an error. After playing, he scouted and managed in professional baseball for nearly 50 years.
