Dossier

Raymond Ernest Herbert (1929–2022) was a right-handed pitcher who appeared in 407 Major League Baseball games across 14 seasons between 1950 and 1966. A Detroit native, he was first spotted by scout Wish Egan at a local sandlot and signed with the Tigers after graduating from Detroit Catholic Central High School, where he won two league championships and was later inducted into the school's hall of fame in 2008. He pitched for the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies. After his playing career ended, he returned to Detroit and threw batting practice for the Tigers for more than three decades.
