Red Robbins

Austin "Red" Robbins (September 30, 1944 – November 18, 2009) was an American basketball player. A 6'8" power forward and center from Leesburg, Florida, Robbins starred at the University of Tennessee during the 1960s before turning professional in the American Basketball Association. He spent his entire pro career in the ABA, beginning with the New Orleans Buccaneers from 1967 to 1970, followed by the Utah Stars from 1970 to 1972. He then played for the San Diego Conquistadors across two stints (1972–1973 and 1973–1974), the Kentucky Colonels (1973 and 1974–1975), and the Virginia Squires in 1975–1976.

Robbins earned his nickname from his red hair and perceived fiery personality. Over his career he grabbed more than 6,000 rebounds and contributed offensively with a .466 field goal percentage. In the 1971–72 season he led the ABA in three-point percentage with a .408 mark. In Game 7 of the 1971 ABA Western Division playoffs, he made 11 of 12 field goals to lead the Utah Stars to a 108–101 victory, part of their run to the league title.

Robbins died in Metairie, Louisiana, on November 18, 2009, at the age of 65, after battling cancer.
