Rick Blight

Richard Derek Blight, a Canadian ice hockey right wing, was born October 17, 1955, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, and died April 3, 2005. He played junior hockey in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey League, earning the WCHL Rookie of the Year Award in 1973. Blight was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. He had also been drafted by the Michigan Stags in the second round of the 1974 WHA Amateur Draft but never played in the WHA.

Over his first three NHL seasons, Blight was the Canucks' top scorer, finishing fifth, first, and second in team scoring in 1975, 1976, and 1977, with a combined 187 points. His career spanned the National Hockey League, the Central Hockey League, and the American Hockey League, and he was named to the CHL Second All-Star Team in 1981.

Blight retired from playing in 1983, after which he worked as a stockbroker and marketing consultant and managed his family farm in Manitoba. In 1995, he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. The surname Blight is of Cornish origin.
