Dossier

Rodney Albert Seiling, born November 14, 1944, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman whose career spanned from the early 1960s through the end of the 1970s. Signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1962, he played only one game with the club and spent most of his early career as a Toronto prospect in the minors. In 1964 he represented Canada at the Winter Olympics, where the team finished fourth. He was then traded to the New York Rangers, where he remained for the next decade. He was briefly claimed by the St. Louis Blues in the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft but was immediately traded back to the Rangers. His defensive play helped guide the Rangers to the 1972 Stanley Cup Finals, and that same year he was named an all-star for the only time in his career and was a member of Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series. In 1974 he was claimed on waivers by the Washington Capitals, but after a single game with Washington he was traded back to the Maple Leafs. He also played for the Blues and the Atlanta Flames before retiring at the end of the 1978–79 NHL season. He is the brother of Ric Seiling. In 2006, Seiling was appointed Chair of the Ontario Racing Commission.
