Roger Wehrli

Roger Russell Wehrli (born November 26, 1947) is an American former professional football player who spent his entire 14-year career as a cornerback for the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League from 1969 until 1982. Over those seasons he was selected to seven Pro Bowls.

Born in New Point, Missouri, Wehrli was the son of teachers; his father served as a school district superintendent. His parents enrolled him in school at the age of five, and as a result he began his freshman year of high school at thirteen. He attended high school in King City, Missouri, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track for the Wildkats and helped the school win the state track title in 1965. That year he was recruited by Dan Devine to the University of Missouri.

At Missouri, Wehrli was assigned to defense by Devine, though he handled the ball often enough to pose an offensive threat. He earned consensus All-American honors as a Tigers defensive back and was selected by the Cardinals in the first round of the 1969 NFL Draft.

Wehrli was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
