Ron Greschner

Ronald John Greschner, born December 22, 1954, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 16 seasons in the National Hockey League between 1974 and 1990. Selected 32nd overall by the New York Rangers in the 1974 NHL amateur draft, he spent his entire career with the franchise, appearing in 982 games. He scored 179 goals and added 431 assists for 610 points, and his 1,226 penalty minutes remain the most in Rangers history. His finest offensive season came in 1977–78, when he recorded 24 goals and 48 assists for 72 points. Though a defenceman by trade, he was at times deployed as a left winger by coach Craig Patrick. Before reaching the NHL, he was named to the Western Canada Hockey League All-Star Team in 1974. In the 2009 book 100 Ranger Greats, the authors ranked Greschner 12th all-time among the 901 players to suit up for New York during the team's first 82 seasons. Off the ice, he was previously married to supermodel Carol Alt, and he has five children with his wife, Lori; the family lives in West Palm Beach, Florida. He also led the Ron Greschner Foundation in support of autism research and awareness.
