Dossier

Ronald Thomas Harris, born June 30, 1942, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 476 games in the National Hockey League. He skated for the Detroit Red Wings, Oakland Seals, Atlanta Flames, and New York Rangers.

On January 13, 1968, Harris, playing for the Oakland Seals against the Minnesota North Stars, was involved in the accident that caused the death of Bill Masterton. Harris has conducted only one interview on the subject, with the St. Paul Pioneer Press in 2003, in which he stated, "It bothers you the rest of your life. It wasn't dirty and it wasn't meant to happen that way. Still, it's very hard because I made the play. It's always in the back of my mind." He has said the incident continues to plague him.

After retiring from the NHL, Harris moved into coaching, working at the major junior level with the Windsor Spitfires and the Spokane Flyers, and later serving as an assistant coach with the Quebec Nordiques in the NHL.
