Dossier

Ronald Lawrence Schock (born December 19, 1943) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in the National Hockey League from 1964 to 1978. He scored his first NHL goal as a member of the Boston Bruins on February 29, 1964, in a 2–1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Boston Garden. He later played for the St. Louis Blues and the Pittsburgh Penguins. According to one account, while with St. Louis, Schock attended a hockey dinner where he was asked which team he would least like to be traded to; he named either the New York Rangers or the Pittsburgh Penguins, and two days later he was traded to Pittsburgh. With the Blues, Schock is best remembered for his double-overtime "Midnight Goal" that won game 7 over the Minnesota North Stars on May 3, 1968, sending St. Louis to the Stanley Cup finals in the first year of NHL expansion and contributing to the early popularity of the franchise. Over his career he played 909 games, recording 166 goals, 351 assists, and 517 points before retiring. His younger brother, Danny Schock, also played briefly in the NHL.
