Dossier

Roy Lee Jefferson (born November 9, 1943) was an American professional football player who spent twelve seasons as a wide receiver in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Colts, and Washington Redskins. Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, he grew up in Southern California and graduated from Compton High School in 1961, where he played both basketball and football. He went on to the University of Utah, playing for the Utah Utes on the varsity from 1962 to 1964. He led the team in scoring in each of those three seasons and was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference team on offense all three years.

Across 162 regular-season NFL games, Jefferson recorded 451 receptions for 7,539 yards and 52 touchdowns. He appeared in Super Bowl V with the Baltimore Colts and Super Bowl VII with the Washington Redskins.

In 2016, Jefferson was one of five Compton alumni honored in a "Golden Five" ceremony recognizing those who had played in the Super Bowl. His Compton High football jersey, number 80, was retired in 2018 as part of the school's Hall of Fame jersey retirement celebration.
