Russ Anderson

Russell Vincent "Russ" Anderson (born February 12, 1955) was an American professional ice hockey defenseman who played 519 games in the NHL between 1976 and 1985. A Minneapolis native, he attended Washburn High School before earning a football scholarship to the University of Minnesota, where a torn Achilles tendon derailed that path. Coach Herb Brooks recruited him to the hockey program, and Anderson won an NCAA Championship with the Gophers in 1976. He went on to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, and Los Angeles Kings, and represented the United States at the 1977 Ice Hockey World Championships.
