Sam Agnew

Samuel Lester "Slam" Agnew (April 12, 1887 – July 19, 1951) was a right-handed catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1913 through 1919. Born in Farmington, Missouri, he spent time with the St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox, and Washington Senators. Agnew debuted with the Browns in 1913, appearing in 105 games and batting .208 with 2 home runs, 24 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. Acquired by Boston in December 1915, he served as backup catcher behind Pinch Thomas. He received a suspension from the American League president after punching Senators manager Clark Griffith during a bench-clearing brawl.
