Sammy Ranzino

Samuel "Sammy" Ranzino (1927–1994) was an American basketball player who starred as a guard at North Carolina State University in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Recruited by coach Everett Case, Ranzino helped lead the Wolfpack to four consecutive Southern Conference titles and the school's first Final Four appearance in 1950. He earned consensus first-team All-American honors in 1951 and finished his college career with 1,967 points, a school record that stood until David Thompson broke it in 1975. Rochester Royals selected him 8th overall in the 1951 NBA draft; he played one professional season. NC State retired his number 77.
