Solly Hofman

Arthur Frederick Hofman, known as "Circus Solly" (October 29, 1882 - March 10, 1956). He was a native of St. Louis, Missouri, listed in playing days at 6'0", 160 lbs. He batted right-handed and threw right-handed. His major-league career ran from 1903 through 1916, primarily with the Chicago Cubs of the National League. His broader professional ledger — including minor-league seasons — extends from 1901 through 1916. On the cardboard side, his vintage presence runs through E254 Colgan's Chips and T206 White Border, the two issues where period collectors most often encounter him. He died on March 10, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is interred at Bethlehem Cemetery in Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri.
