Stan Love

Stanley S. Love, an American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association and the American Basketball Association, was born April 9, 1949 and died April 27, 2025. A 6'9" forward, he grew up in the Baldwin Hills area of Los Angeles, the fourth of six children of Milton Edward Love, a union sheet metal worker, and Emily Glee Wilson Love, a singer. He graduated from Morningside High School in Inglewood, California, where he played center in his senior year, then played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks from 1968 to 1971.

Love was the ninth pick in the 1971 NBA draft, chosen by the Baltimore Bullets. He had also been selected by the Dallas Chaparrals in the 1971 ABA draft, having previously been chosen in the 1970 ABA draft as well.

Love was the younger brother of Beach Boys singer Mike Love and the father of basketball player Kevin Love. His brother Mike, along with cousins Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, formed the Beach Boys. During the late 1970s, Love was also employed as a bodyguard, trainer, and assistant to Brian Wilson, the Loves' cousin.
