Ted Hampson

Edward George "Ted" Hampson, born December 11, 1936, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in the National Hockey League and World Hockey Association during the 1960s and 1970s. As captain of the Flin Flon Bombers, a small-town team from Northern Manitoba competing in the SJHL, he won the Memorial Cup in 1957. Drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Hampson began his professional career in 1959.

In 1969, while playing for the Oakland Seals, he was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. He retired from the NHL following the 1971–72 season, having recorded 108 goals, 245 assists, and 353 points with a mere 94 penalty minutes in 676 NHL games. He captained the Oakland Seals during his NHL tenure.

Hampson then played five seasons in the World Hockey Association. In 1973, as a member of the Minnesota Fighting Saints, he received the Paul Deneau Trophy as the league's most gentlemanly player. He also captained the Fighting Saints. Across 305 WHA appearances, Hampson tallied 60 goals, 143 assists, and 203 points with 51 penalty minutes.

He later served as a general manager. Hampson is the father of Gord Hampson.
