Terry Dischinger

Terry Gilbert Dischinger (November 21, 1940 – October 9, 2023) was an American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. A standout at Purdue University, he averaged 28 points per game across his three seasons there. Dischinger went on to a professional career marked by individual honors, earning NBA Rookie of the Year in 1963 and being named an NBA All-Star three times.

Before his college and professional career, Dischinger attended James A. Garfield High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he was the son of the football coach. He earned three letters in basketball and was twice named the Purple Eagles' MVP. As a senior in the 1957–58 season, he served as captain and was named MVP of the 1958 Indiana All-Star team. He was also selected a 1958 Parade All-American and earned all-state honors in basketball under coach Willard Kehrt, while also lettering in football and track under his father, Donas Dischinger. In 1960, he was a member of the United States men's Olympic basketball team.

Dischinger practiced orthodontics after his NBA career. He was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019, and in 2010 his 1960 Olympic team was collectively inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
