Dossier

Terrance Victor Harper, born January 27, 1940, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who competed in the National Hockey League from 1962 to 1981. He grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he learned the game. As a child he suffered serious third-degree burns to his arms, chest, stomach, and legs in a fire, damage that required seven years of skin grafting; doctors permitted him to play hockey as a means of rebuilding his leg muscles. He played for Regina's local team, which was sponsored by the Montreal Canadiens, and reached the 1958 Memorial Cup finals, losing to the Ottawa-Hull Junior Canadiens, a club led by manager Sam Pollock, coach Scotty Bowman, and future stars J.C. Tremblay, Gilles Tremblay, Ralph Backstrom, and Bobby Rousseau.

Harper spent his first ten seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. He joined the team in 1962 but did not debut until 1963. His greatest success came in Montreal, where he won five Stanley Cups between 1963 and 1972. Over the course of his career he also played for the Los Angeles Kings, the Detroit Red Wings, the St. Louis Blues, and the Colorado Rockies before retiring in 1981.
