Terry Sawchuk

Dossier
Terrance Gordon Sawchuk (December 28, 1929 – May 31, 1970) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played 21 seasons in the National Hockey League between 1950 and 1970. Born in the North End of Winnipeg and raised in East Kildonan, he reached the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and went on to tend goal for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers.
Sawchuk won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie and earned the Vezina Trophy four times. He was a four-time Stanley Cup champion. At the time of his death he held the all-time records among NHL goaltenders for wins, with 447, and for shutouts, with 103. He remains the all-time leader in both categories among goaltenders who played in the Original Six era of 1942 to 1967; in the decades since, his win total has been surpassed by eight goaltenders and his shutout total by one.
He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame the year after his final season, becoming one of only ten players for whom the customary three-year waiting period was waived. In 2017 he was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players."
