Tod Sloan

Aloysius Martin "Tod" Sloan (November 30, 1927 – July 12, 2017) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who competed in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Black Hawks. Born in Litchfield, Quebec, Sloan grew up in Falconbridge, Ontario, and played junior hockey with the St. Michael's Majors.

He began his professional career with the Pittsburgh Hornets of the American Hockey League in the 1946–47 season and was called up for a single game by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1947–48. In 1948–49, Sloan played 29 regular-season games with Toronto but did not appear in the playoffs; his name was left off the Stanley Cup, though he was included in the Maple Leafs' 1949 team picture. Over eight full seasons with the Leafs, he won the Stanley Cup in 1949 and 1951.

In 1958, Sloan and teammate Jimmy Thomson were traded from Toronto to Chicago as a result of their work organizing the National Hockey League Players' Association. He played three seasons for the Black Hawks and won a third Stanley Cup with them in 1961. In all, Sloan was a member of three Stanley Cup championship teams: Toronto in 1949 and 1951, and Chicago in 1961.
