Thomas William Bettis (1933–2015) was a linebacker who played nine NFL seasons for the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Chicago Bears after earning first-team All-American honors at Purdue in 1954. Selected fifth overall by Green Bay in the 1955 NFL Draft, he went on to a 30-year coaching career primarily with the Kansas City Chiefs, including stints with the 1966–67 AFL championship and Super Bowl IV championship teams. Bettis served as interim head coach of the Chiefs in 1977, going 1–6 in seven games. He was inducted into the Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame and the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.
